Fiberglass Subwoofer Enclosure

7/03/04 —
I decided that the big box that I have now for my subwoofers was getting in the way too often. And I would like to use the T-Top tie down straps from time to time as they are supposed to be used so that the tops don't go flying all over the place as usual. And it will just look nicer when I am done. The current setup is 2 10" subs, but I think that I will be switching over to a single 12". I will have to decide soon, so that I can make the front side of the enclosure. I plan on going for a sealed type box, to minimize volume (of the enclosure).

I am basing what I am doing here upon articles and tutorials that I have read online, one of the best of which is available here.

Old Kenwood box being replaced

First layer of mat and resin in the car

Pulled things out of the way

Contours to shape of trim pieces

Some of the cheap masking tape melted... I would recommend using foil behind anywhere where resin will be

First layer out of the car

Holding its shape nicely

Pretty much transparent with all of the tape and foil removed from the back

Rough edges

Beginning to add more layers

This is still a work in progress. I haven't had much time to work on it in a couple of months, so this is where it remains for now. To help me get in gear, I have seen how Dave's turned out, and it looks great, so I need to go ahead and finish. I started first!
